Singles of the Week (41//22)

1) Varlots - Nuchal

New single from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania blackgaze indie-rock band...
Sometime in 2020, there was a point where I was revisiting hospital records involving my nuchal birth before being adopted and becoming an American citizen. Most nuchal births, where an infant is strangulated by the umbilical cord, are harmless. The first few months of my life were spent in a hospital as this was the one out of ten chances it was harmful to an infant. At the time of revisiting this event as an adult, I suffered a mental break from reality where I was hallucinating people were following me in order to hang me with a noose. Felt like a strange way to come back to these events in a way that was just as unpleasant as the first. The spoken word element was a recollection of a dream I had the preceding year. - Stephen Edwards

4) Priestgate - Some Things Never Change

News from Driffield, UK indie-rock band...
Change has been a theme through our tracks and the more I thought about that the more I understood that not everything does. This song is the opposite of our previous work in that sense, it’s quite literal, some things never change.
