Singles of the Week (48//23)

1) ghost days - Angel Tears

News from Chicago, Illinois dreampop / shoegaze (Alessia Kato)

This has been an incredibly beautiful and painful year all in one, these songs are a reflection of the heart, inside and out. Self discovery meets self destruction and a dive into the unknown. I'm so incredibly thankful to anyone and everyone who has supported this project in any way! It truly means the world to me and inspires me to keep going, my heart is full!

2) Get Wrong - Get Wrong

News from Glasgow, synth pop UK duo...

Introducing Get Wrong, the new project of Naomi Griffin of Martha and Adam Todd of The Spook School.

Their debut self-titled EP  via Father/Daughter (US) and Alcopop! (UK).

The EP was produced, recorded, and mixed by Peter Brewis and mastered by David Brewis, both of the band Field Music. Get Wrong is a somewhat long-distance collaboration, with Naomi based in Durham, England and Adam based in Glasgow, Scotland. With a shared background in the UK indie pop/punk scene, the two friends decided to embrace their love of pop music and create songs outside their usual comfort zone of chugging guitars and squealing feedback. The resulting output draws inspiration from 80s synth-pop alongside current pop megastars, with an approach that embraces fun, cuteness, intimacy and dream-like nostalgia. Taken from the North-East English colloquialism for getting into trouble, the band name Get Wrong serves as a mission statement to encourage child-like naivety while questioning the status quo. 4) camping - Never Been Camping

News from Singapore indie - emo - punk band...

camping is no stranger to the alternative emo scene in Singapore. Comprising members from Terrible People, Bethari, and Charm, their debut release in mid-2023 marked a promising entry into the emo canon with a two-track demo. The four-piece has since opened for acts such as Anxious and Angel Du$t and is slated to open for Citizen and a local New Year’s Eve mini-festival. On their debut EP Never Been Camping, the band embraces the various strands of emo that each member turns to for comfort, re-emerging with a cohesive sonic identity that rings familiar to their American contemporaries yet eludes typical markers of the genre. The seven-track album delves into feelings universal to the experience of emerging from the chrysalis of late adolescence: whether the revisiting of ordinary moments in the rearview mirror or the disquieting erosion of close relationships.

5) DARTZ - Learning To Drive With Dad

News from punk / garage rock band...

Album "Dangerous Day To Be A Cold One releases March 1, 2024

The Band From Wellington is back: DARTZ has announced their second album Dangerous Day To Be A Cold One, releasing on 1 March 2024 via Flying Nun Records in NZ. Quickly returning to the studio following their 2022 NZ chart-topping debut, DARTZ enlisted producer James Goldsmith (DARTZ) and bunkered down at The Surgery in their home city of Wellington. The result is Dangerous Day To Be A Cold One, a raucous 30 minutes that channels DARTZ's party-starting pub rock energy into ten of their most anthemic tracks yet. Featuring sports-rock lead single "Earn The Thirst", snarky summer anthem "Paradise", and a blistering title track - as well as many more future fan favourites - Dangerous Day To Be A Cold One looks to be another decisive statement from Aotearoa's most irrepressibly entertaining rock up-and-comers.
